The main team has returned safely to the UK following an intense 16 days of building, visiting schools and communities across Uganda.  The main task was to begin the building phase and establish a local building team trained in using the new brick making machines.  At the end of this part of the programme the local team was making 400 bricks per day!

Our young people also visited familes widely within this rural community to introduce the new Maternity Scheme and we received an amazing welcome.  We also spent several days working in the local primary school which has already begun to build two new classrooms since the visit last October on the promise of funding from the people of Bewts y Coed in Snowdonia.

At the end of our visit to the rural area close to The Queen Elizabeth National Park, the team entertained the local people to a goat BBQ and provided an African style drum and dance show!

Our place within this community was made quite clear when we were accepted at the funeral of a child in the village and asked to be part of the ceremony of filling in the grave.

No day passed without a new experience and deep emotional moments.  It may be that we made a small difference to a number of lives and several very poor communities, but what is certain is that our lives were personally challenged and we will never be quite the same again.

Zoe and Christina remain with our projects in Uganda until mid August when Niall joins our Link Community in Kampala to build on the work over the following 9 months.
